Cantilever racks are a heavy-duty storage system designed for long, bulky, or irregularly shaped items that don't fit well on standard pallet racking. Unlike traditional shelving, they use vertical columns with horizontal arms that extend outward, leaving the front completely open and unobstructed by upright frames.
Key features:
- Open-access design – no front columns means easy loading/unloading from either side, often with forklifts or cranes
- Adjustable arms – load-bearing arms can typically be repositioned or removed to accommodate different item sizes
- Single or double-sided configurations – single-sided units are placed against a wall; double-sided units allow storage access from both sides, maximizing floor space
- High weight capacity – built to handle heavy loads, often several thousand pounds per arm
Common uses:
Cantilever racks are ideal for storing lumber, pipes, steel bars, furniture, carpet rolls, sheet metal, and other long or oversized materials commonly found in lumber yards, steel warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers.
Benefits:
- Maximizes storage density for awkward-shaped items
- Improves accessibility and reduces retrieval time
- Reduces product damage by eliminating obstructions
- Customizable height and arm spacing for varied inventory
