MULTI-TIER PALLET RACKS

MULTI-TIER PALLET RACKS

Quantity

Multi-tier pallet racks are vertically stacked storage systems designed to maximize warehouse space by creating multiple walkable levels above the ground floor. Unlike traditional single-level pallet racking, these systems combine structural racking frames with catwalk platforms, staircases, and safety railings to form two, three, or more usable floors within a single footprint.

Key features:

  • Vertical space utilization – Turns unused overhead warehouse volume into functional storage or picking levels
  • Mezzanine-style platforms – Each tier includes a flooring system (often steel grating or particleboard) that workers can walk and operate on
  • Modular construction – Built from standard pallet racking components (upright frames, beams, decking), allowing customization in height, width, and configuration
  • Access infrastructure – Includes stairs, ladders, and safety gates for moving between levels
  • Mixed storage capability – Lower levels can store palletized goods (accessed by forklift) while upper tiers are used for manual picking or lighter inventory

Common applications:

Multi-tier pallet racks are popular in e-commerce fulfillment centers, distribution warehouses, and retail stockrooms where order picking volume is high and floor space is limited. They're especially useful for storing small-to-medium SKUs that need to be hand-picked rather than moved by machinery.

Benefits:

  • Increases storage capacity without expanding the building footprint
  • Improves picking efficiency by organizing SKUs across accessible levels
  • Offers a cost-effective alternative to building expansion or automated storage systems
