PALLET FLOW RACKS

PALLET FLOW RACKS

Quantity

Pallet flow racks (also called gravity flow racks) are a high-density storage system that uses inclined roller or wheel tracks to move pallets by gravity from the loading end to the picking end. Pallets are loaded at the higher back end of the rack and gradually roll forward to the front, where they're removed for order picking or shipping.

Key features:

  • FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory rotation — ideal for perishable goods, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and any product with expiration dates or shelf-life concerns
  • Braking/speed control systems — regulate pallet speed as they roll down the lane to prevent collisions
  • High storage density — multiple pallets stack deep in a single lane, reducing aisle space needed compared to standard selective racking
  • Separate loading and picking aisles — loading happens on one side, picking on the other, minimizing forklift traffic congestion and improving safety
  • Continuous replenishment — as a pallet is removed from the front, the next one automatically advances

Common applications:
Warehouses and distribution centers handling perishable or time-sensitive inventory, high-volume SKUs, and operations that need to maximize cube utilization while maintaining strict stock rotation.
